In our fast-paced lives, we are often told that "more is better." We think that to see results, we must be constantly moving, lifting, or running. However, at Welcome Gym, we know that the most important part of your fitness journey happens when the workout ends.
As we start
Week 3: RECOVER Week, we are shifting our focus to the "Progress Phase." This is the time when your body actually does the hard work of getting stronger, leaner, and more capable.
The Magic of Repair When you take part in a HIIT session or a challenging run, you are essentially giving your body a "to-do list." You create tiny amounts of stress in your muscles and your heart. It is only when you rest that your body has the chance to go through that list and make the necessary repairs.
This process is what makes you feel fitter during your next visit. If you skip the rest, your body never gets the chance to finish its repairs, which can lead to feeling tired, sore, or demotivated.
Resting vs. Moving Gently Recovery is not just about staying still. While a good night of sleep is the gold standard for recovery, "Active Recovery" is also a brilliant tool. This might involve a gentle swim, a slow walk, or a dedicated stretching routine. These activities keep the blood flowing to your muscles, which helps to clear out waste products and bring in the nutrients needed for repair.
The Reset 5 Challenge To help you master this phase, we have introduced
The Reset 5 routine on the gym floor this week. These five low-impact movements are designed to decompress your joints and improve your flexibility. Pick up a Challenge Card at reception to see the full Level 1 to 3 breakdown for each move:
- Low-Intensity Cycle or Pool Lap: Flushes metabolic waste and gets the blood moving.
- Lunge & Twist: A total body move to open your hips and rotate your spine.
- Foam Roll Quads & Glutes: Releases muscle tension and improves circulation.
- Sauna or Deep Breathing: Shifts your body into a "Rest & Digest" state for faster repair.
- Deep Pigeon Stretch: The ultimate move to prevent hip and lower back tightness.
They are the perfect way to reward your body for the hard work you have put in over the last fortnight.
