Week 4: HYBRID Week. This is the final step in our MOVE campaign, and it is the ultimate preparation for our
Summer Inter-Club Challenge.
Save the Date: The Summer Inter-Club Challenge In
June 2026, Welcome Gym will go head-to-head with other clubs in a test of pure grit and athleticism at
Welcome Gym Chesham. The event will consist of a 40-minute "Hybrid" style community race split into two sections:
ENGINE and
BURN. You will work in teams to achieve maximum reps and distance across 5-minute exercise intervals, with points awarded to your club for every effort made. Whether you are competing for the top spot on the leaderboard or aiming for a personal best, this is the event where your four weeks of MOVE training truly count.

The Hybrid Mindset Hybrid training is all about being a "jack of all trades." It is a routine that ensures you are as strong as you are fit. By bringing together everything you have learned about
HIIT, Running, and
Recovery, you create a body that is ready for any obstacle the Summer Challenge might throw at you.
A hybrid athlete does not just have a powerful heart or strong muscles; they have the ability to switch between the two seamlessly. This versatility is exactly what you need to succeed when you are competing against other clubs this summer.
How to Prepare for the Challenge To make sure you are ready for the big event, your training this week should focus on the transition between different types of effort. Here is how to master your hybrid routine:
- Mix Your Intensity: Try moving from a high-power kettlebell movement straight into a steady jog to test how quickly your heart can adapt.
- Keep Moving: During the challenge, transitions are key. Practice moving between the "Power" and "Engine" zones with minimal rest.
- Respect Your Recovery: Your body needs to be at 100% for the challenge. Use your recovery movements this week to ensure you are fresh and injury-free.

The Hybrid 5 challenge card at reception. This circuit combines the best movements from the previous weeks into one final test. It is designed to give you a taste of the competition and help you find your "top gear" before the challenge begins.
- Row (The HIIT Entry): Spikes the heart rate immediately to test your power under pressure.
- Kettlebell Goblet Squats (The Power): Builds strength-endurance, preparing your legs for the final race sprint.
- Run OR Bike (The Engine): The core cardiovascular test for the Summer Challenge.
- Mountain Climbers (The Finisher): Core stability and a final metabolic burn to test your mental resolve.
- Guided Stretch (The Recovery): Lowers cortisol levels and begins the repair process immediately.
