MOVE: Celebrating International Women’s Day 2026

This month at Welcome Gym, we are moving with a mindset of generosity, collaboration, and support. International Women’s Day 2026 is an opportunity to celebrate the women who make our gyms a place of progress, from our dedicated staff to every member who walks through our doors.

A Supportive Environment for Every Goal

We believe that true success is built together. Whether you are finding your feet in a new fitness routine or pushing for a personal best, our community is here to ensure you never have to move alone. This month is about reflecting on your "why" and celebrating the small wins that lead to big changes.

Wisdom from the Welcome Gym Community

We sat down with some of the inspiring women leading our clubs to discuss confidence, consistency, and owning your space. From Kirsty Michael’s journey from a nervous 15-year-old to a club manager, here are the key pieces of advice they shared:

  • Ownership of Space | "I want women to feel confident using the equipment, sure of their form, and unapologetic about being there. Don’t wait till you feel ‘fit enough’ to start. Confidence comes after you begin, not before." — Kirsty Michael
  • The Power of the Plan | "Set a plan and stick to it. It hurts 10x more when you know you could have done more by eating better, training harder, or recovering smarter. Pick up the dam weight, you won’t regret it." — Lois Anderton
  • The Group Energy | "Generally, this is a connection to the music in group ex or seeing and feeling the results of the workout. After one or two sessions, members often start to prefer working out with a group rather than pounding miles alone on a treadmill." — Jo Stevenson
  • Efficient Movement | "Parenthood taught me that efficiency isn’t about squeezing more into my day; it’s about choosing movements with the biggest impact. If energy is low, I simply scale it down, lighter weights or slower reps, to keep me consistent without burning out." — Kirsty Michael
  • Recovery and Balance | "Recovery doesn’t just happen by itself; it’s about how you care for your body outside of the gym. Avoid massive loads when your nervous system needs a reset, and focus on the things you can control, like sleep and hydration." — Lois Anderton
  • Breaking Plateaus | "Do not be held back by routine if it does not serve your purpose. Go to a new class, try a PT session, or explore a different part of the gym." — Jo Stevenson

Leading with Heart and Expertise

From the "lightbulb moments" in our group exercise classes to the professional guidance on the gym floor, the women leading our clubs are here to support your journey. We are proud to spotlight the instructors and managers who foster a safe, friendly, and motivating environment for women of all ages and abilities.

A Space to Focus

Our goal is to provide a comfortable training environment where you can focus entirely on your own progress. Whether you are navigating hormone fluctuations by adjusting your intensity or learning to lift heavy for the first time, our teams are here to guide you. "Strength training completely shifted my self-image," Kirsty shares. "I stopped obsessing over how my body looked and started caring more about what it could do."
