The Power of a Workout Buddy: Why Training Together Wins

The Power of a Workout Buddy: Why Training Together Wins

We have all had those mornings where the snooze button feels far more inviting than the gym floor. However, when you know a friend is waiting for you at the squat rack or in the studio, your mindset shifts. At Welcome Gym, we believe that fitness is a social move. Training with a buddy does more than just keep you accountable; it transforms your entire training session into an energising, shared experience.

ACCOUNTABILITY IS KEY

Consistency is the foundation of any fitness journey. When you train solo, it is easy to skip a session or cut a workout short. When you have a partner, you are part of a team.

  • The Social Contract: You are less likely to cancel when someone else is relying on your energy.
  • The Motivation Boost: A workout buddy provides that extra push during the final reps of a set, helping you reach a level of intensity you might not find alone.

PARTNER WORKOUT EXAMPLES

Looking for a way to refresh your session this week? Try these "You Go, I Go" style finishers with a friend to spark some friendly competition.

1. THE SQUAT AND HOLD (4 ROUNDS)

  • Partner A: Completes 15 Goblet Squats.
  • Partner B: Holds a static squat at the bottom of the movement.
  • Swap roles immediately. The goal is to keep the tension throughout the entire set.

2. THE RELAY SPRINTS Head to the cardio zone and set a target distance, such as 2000m on the rower or 4000m on the bike.

  • Partner A: Sprints for 30 seconds at maximum effort.
  • Partner B: Rests and prepares to take over.
  • Keep swapping until the distance is covered.

PREPARE FOR THE INTER-CLUB CHALLENGE

The ultimate test of teamwork is just around the corner. The Inter-Club Challenge is designed for teams of four, making this the perfect time to recruit your training partners and start synchronising your efforts.

Our Taster Week is from 27-30 April. This is the ideal opportunity to bring your workout buddy along, get a feel for the competition format, and see if your duo has what it takes to represent your club this summer.

Check the "Inter-Club Challenge Taster" sessions on your class timetable from 27-30 April to get a taste of the Inter-Club workout. You can then sign up for the challenge via the tile on the App home page.
